April Sweeps - Day 431

I'm really not doing too well with the blogging.  Yesterday, I hit "Publish" on a blog post from the day before, not really writing more than a paragraph for the day itself, and when I looked at my blog today, it was still asking "Confirm or Cancel?" about publishing it.

I had lots of work to get done today, which I know I complain about (especially on Mondays), but believe me, it is better to have work to do, even if it's ultimately pointless and I whine about it, than to have no work, and start contemplating my place in the universe and such.

My brother-in-law quit his job a week or two ago, and his kids have no school at all this week (Spring Break, they're calling it, though I honestly don't remember EVER having a full week off from school except for the last week of the year the dozen-plus years I went), and it's so strange to see how much TV and video games they manage to get in each day.  Last night, my sister was at work, and the boys were in the living room, watching insanely-obnoxious "Minecraft" play-through videos on YouTube*, and after I had gone on my run, jotted down a couple of paragraphs for an author's note for one of my stories, I went to the kitchen and made myself a pizza, despite it being fairly late at night . . .

. . . and the three year old came out and asked if he could have a piece.  He was in his room, watching cartoons, and was still awake, with no one having put him to bed.  That seemed super strange to me, but I cut him off a tiny piece of the pizza, and when I next saw him, he had fallen asleep, so I carried him to his bed and turned off the light.

Sit-ups Today: 100
Sit-ups In April: 700 (I need to do a single extra sit-up, just to mess with this number, don't I?)

I got very little writing done, which seems to be par for the course (like last month, my goal is not to write every day, and CERTAINLY not to get a thousand words in a day, but to simply write at least fifteen thousand words for the month, and that's doable even if I'm turning in three or four hundred word days like yesterday.

I did manage to finish recording "Meet the New Clerk," but I am not at all satisfied with the end of that story.  I honestly couldn't remember how I had finished it, and when I got to that part, I felt like it happened way too fast.  Maybe tonight, I'll try to lengthen that bit by a paragraph or two, but I don't want to spend any more time on it and it's time to get it published.  Today I looked up "MAN ON STAIRS" in an image search, but didn't find anything I liked, so I tried "SHADOW ON STAIRS," and it worked a little better.  I might have to ask Gino for his help again, see if he could do something like he did with "Three Time Visitor."**

For example, I love this photo, which is cover-art-able.

Push-ups Today: 60
Push-ups In April: 693

I haven't decided what to record for my next audiobook (I didn't have any free space last night, and had to delete the "Delusions of Grandeur" recording I did with Marshal, hoping he got the copy I sent him and I wouldn't need the original giant file), but I'm leaning toward either "Two Month Itch," "Winter Break," or "Hatchling."  "Hatchling" is the one I like the most of those, but it's so long, it'll probably take me until summer to get done, and I'd rather start on it then.

I finished editing an Outcast episode yesterday, before the shrieking children outside got too infuriating*** and I had to find something else to do.  I hope you understand.

Wrote another little section of my Valentine's Day story.  It should be shorter than the one I just finished (the one with a character named Waverly in it), but you never know.  I have, for years, thought about writing a scene where Lara runs into the kid she cast a love spell on in the very first story, only to find out he still carries a torch for the girl from their class (that Lara has long since forgotten the name of).  I think this might be the one to fit it into.

Words Today: 1002
Words In April: 4043

*Holy smoke, I'd much rather they watch "Spongebob," as little as I like that show, or porn (despite them being a little bit young for it), or simply PLAYING video games than watching these assholes play games and yammer incessantly in the upper left hand corner of the screen the whole time.  I guess I understand--in theory--why they feel the need to constantly talk or joke around or scream (I am a podcaster, after all), but holy Buzz Lightyear, it bugs the crap out of me when they have it on.  It irritates my mom just as much as me, though she will yell at them to turn it off when she's around, and I have no such authority over their viewing habits.

**Where he took two free-to-use images and combined them to make a unique new one for my cover.

***Those little monsters really ought to put together a YouTube channel where they play "Plants Versus Zombies" or "Cuphead" and yell all the way through it.
