Not long ago*, Marshal Latham and I sat down and watched 1957's CURSE OF THE DEMON (or MARK OF THE DEMON, if you're nasty), the filmic adaptation of MR James's short story "Casting The Runes." When Professor Holden crosses the diabolical occult expert Doctor Karswell, he gives him the dreadful runes . . . and passing them uses lots of skills. Terrible thrills, I tell ya.
