February Seeps - Day 61

April has arrived, and with it a holiday about forty-six times better than Valentine's Day.  But you know the score on that one.

I haven't written today at all.  But I did finish editing a podcast.  I went to the park (not the one with the stairs, but one with a bike path that various healthy and/or attractive people run on daily), and intended to write, but focused instead on my Patreon address, which I will post tonight or tomorrow.  While I was working on it, I saw an older man (around seventy) trying to climb down the grassy hill beside the picnic area (where I was sitting) in a suit and tie.  Something about him screamed Justice of the Peace, or whatever that term is around here.

Sure enough, I turned around and saw an intimate gathering of people there for a wedding.  They had been hanging out in the other picnic area, waiting for their officiator to arrive, presumably.  Now, they lined up, in the park, right beside the disgusting duck pond* and had a tiny wedding.  I'm not exaggerating when I say it was an intimate affair: there were the bride and groom, the best man and maid of honor, the parents of the bride (presumably.  They were parents of somebody), and the old Bishop or Judge with his Bible.  I watched them for a moment, then felt odd about it (kind of like the last time I watched your parents making love.  Oh, it was fun for a while, then it got a little bit uncomfortable when I thought about looking you in the eye the next time we got together), and went back to my not-writing.

In other news, I also finally sold that C-3PO with the torn-up packaging that I did an episode of Tales of eBay Horror on (the guy said I'd shipped it in too small a box, so to teach me a lesson, he issued a dispute, then smashed the card and bubble so it would absolutely worthless to anybody, ever).  Well, somebody wanted it loose, which is how I should sell everything, so it's finally out of my hands (and I even made a crisp, cool negative eight-twenty one on it.  Neat!).  At least until the new buyer complains that it looks like some guy stomped on it in 2017.

Big's March was better than his February, and he is aiming for an April even better than that.  I don't think that's a realistic goal for me.  I'm going to keep writing for as many more days in a row as I can, but if I only get a five hundred words one day, then a thousand words, then a hundred, I'll count that as good.  I'd set a goal in March to publish a story a week, and I didn't even get close to that.  I did write enough stories in 2020, though, to put out one a week until mid-summer, and that ain't bad.**

I got it into my head to create a website for the Twilight Groan podcast my niece and I do.  That way, the episodes could be found all in one place, and strangers wouldn't have to wade through the thousand-plus posts of this blog.  Yeah, I have more than a thousand posts here, just like this one, always using the word "actually."  I was going to do that tonight, but in checking to see if there was anything at the link twilightgroan.blogspot.com, I discovered that not only is there already a website there . . . but it's one that I made (and have maintained) since December.

Can you fudging imagine that?

I must have a serious problem with my brain.  Just now, I leaned over and asked my wife if I should be worried about that sort of memory lapse, and then did a huge double-take when I saw a woman sleeping there in the bed.  I checked her hand for a ring, and her wrist for a pulse, and found both.  So, dang, I might be in more trouble than I thought.

Anyhow, instead of creating a website, I decided to write instead, and reward myself after I write with an episode of "Better Call Saul."  Nice incentive.

Okay, I sat down, and started writing . . . and well, I got a little bit caught up in writing a scene I came up with while doing my nightly jog.  And before I knew it, I had over a thousand words.  So, I guess I'm back in this again.  Thanks for caring.

Words Today: 1333

P.S. Every day this month, I'm going to post this image and then pick a song:

Day 1 would be "Blue Moon" by the Marcels.  I've loved this song since about 1986 or so, and it is honestly one of the funnest songs to sing (though it's pretty much impossible to do all the parts by myself).  Also, extra points to any song featured in AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, although that made an effort to feature as many moon-related songs as it could.

*Sorry to describe it that way, but this little reservoir of stagnant water has always been so filthy and unmaintained that my nephews just call it "the dirty pond," as in, "Can we go to the dirty pond and try to catch minnows/goldfish/bluegills/salmonella?"

**Same with the damned Storage Unit Serenades.  I recorded four-and-a-half songs just this week.  And-a-half, you ask?  Well, one had wind blowing badly enough I went back the next day to re-record it, and when I checked it out at home, the camera had shifted so only the top of my head was visible the whole time.  Chances are, I won't be releasing that one.
